Moving From Sydney to Canberra

My Name Is Jessica, and I Moved from Sydney to Canberra

My Journey of Moving From Sydney to Canberra

Of course, deciding to move to a new city or state is one thing; executing that plan is a whole different story. My name is Jessica, and my journey from Sydney to Canberra was more than just packing up and moving.

As someone who loves to plan everything, I thought that things would be in my control. I was nervous about the house move, so I started researching early. I reviewed the reviews of the top companies, requested quotes, and contacted several providers to compare their services. I wanted a team that was not just cheap but had experience with long distance moves and would take full responsibility. There were so many companies that it was easy to get impressed, especially when comparing costs, timelines, and insurance options, as well as adding services. At one point, it might look cheaper, but then you realise it doesn’t include basic things like packing materials and dismantling furniture.

After researching, calling, and mailing numerous companies, I couldn’t find the best fit and received no positive response. As the days went by, it became clear that none of the options matched my needs. However, within a few hours, I received a call from Team Removals, and they matched my needs, offered a reasonable price, had excellent transport terms, and provided excellent customer service.

Choosing an Expert Removalist was the best decision I made for my move from Sydney to Canberra. They helped me from scratch, giving me peace of mind, and also helped me to focus on the emotional side, like saying goodbye to my favourite cafes and meeting my closest friends and family living in Sydney. They handled my belongings with care, like wrapping fragile items in protective blankets, and even helped me label last-minute items in a more manageable way.

Also, during the time of moving, I had my children, pets, and family, which added a new layer to the whole experience. I realised that just as keeping the items safely out of the door, keeping everyone safe and calm is similarly important. I decided to keep my children with their grandparents while the removalist was loading and unloading the items. As for my pets, I kept them in a room with their favourite food, bed, and water as the packing was happening.

Filling up the items on their bus took just a few hours, and they were off to Canberra. I followed them in my car.

What I Learned From My Experience During The Move

I have always heard that a house move is one of the most challenging things, but I went through it myself. This journey has taught me much more than packing boxes and changing addresses. Organising in the right way is important, as is calmness, and most importantly, having the right people around you. If you are planning to move interstate with your family members, from Sydney to Canberra or elsewhere, here is my honest advice:

1. The Right Team Made All the Difference

At first, I could manage on my own with my family members, but after one weekend trying to pack, I realised it was over my head. I received an instant message and call from the Team Removals. They asked for detailed information about my house move, including the moving date and details about my family members. They appeared on time with all the necessary packing tools, such as dollies and moving blankets.

2. Start Planning Early

One of the common myths surrounding house removals is that people often underestimate the importance of small details, such as choosing the best removalist, packing efficiently, and updating their address. I started planning almost one month before moving day, and I decided to start even earlier. Taking at least four to five weeks beforehand allows you to create room to handle any unexpected delays or issues without getting freaked out at the last minute. Create a detailed checklist for the moving day to minimise the mess. This includes booking a removalist and notifying your caretaker if you live in a rented house and updating your address.

3. Declutter Before You Pack

Before packing, it’s essential to disassemble items correctly, as there is no point in packing what you no longer need in your new city or apartment. Create four categories in your list: items you need, items you no longer use but are in good condition to donate or sell, and items or objects that are broken and can be discarded. As a result, it not only helped me to reduce the volume of boxes but also made the move easier.

4. Label Everything

Labelling all the items carefully can make a big difference to a house mover’s day, as it will be harder to identify when dozens of brown boxes surround you, and you will feel more relaxed knowing you made the time to label the boxes. Create a room-based packing list, determining which room to tackle first. Then, bring the appropriate boxes: small, medium, and large. Next, label it with important information, such as fragile items, which are handled with special care, electronics, and accessories. Create a special list of things that should not be packed in the boxes, such as your essential documents, like your birth certificate and driving licence, which should be kept with you to avoid getting lost.

Conclusion

Looking back on my moving journey, it wasn’t just about changing my address; it was about transforming my lifestyle, my pace, and more. At times, as this wasn’t easy, I felt stressed and doubted my decision, but with the proper planning and great support from the Team Removals, this was even smoother. I am now in Canberra with my family and pets, safe and living in my apartment. For the first time in years, I don’t feel rushed. This change made me emotional, yet it was a stress-free move, and I had time to meet my new neighbourhood and enjoy my new surroundings instead of worrying about broken boxes or furniture disasters.
